Crown Oil – A review of 2022
2022 is almost complete and it’s been yet another year to be extremely proud of – most notably, being certified carbon neutral in April, the first step in our goal to achieve net zero direct emissions by 2030. Plus, with the cost-of-living crisis, we’ve placed a huge focus on supporting our local community. We also launched staff volunteering days earlier in the year, allowing us to get involved with some fantastic projects while giving staff the chance to give back to causes they feel passionately about.
So let’s get to it, here’s our review of Crown Oil’s 2022…
January 2022
Our Technical Manager Simon Lawford featured in a series on LinkedIn called #FutureFuelsFriday where he discussed the key role that HVO plays in the future of fuels.
We sponsored local Jamie Hay MMA fighter who took on IMMAF World Champion Lee Hammond on one of the biggest international stages at Bellator 275.
February 2022
We continued to sponsor ADS1928 racing for a second year.
March 2022
We took part in A Forget-Me-Not Memory Walk to raise money and celebrate Bury Hospice’s 30th anniversary.
We donated 1,000 bottles of Crown Oil hand sanitiser to Bury Hospice to help the patients receiving treatment there after the pandemic.
We went down to Heirforce Cheer’s training to present the ladies with a sponsorship cheque of £1960 to help provide essential items for their trip to Summit, America.
April 2022
We celebrated our Diamond Jubilee as we’ve been in business for 75 years!
We became the first UK fuel distributor to achieve carbon neutral status in line with PAS 2060:2014 standards, an industry first!
We continued to sponsor Bint Racing and provide HVO fuel for the pace truck to help them drive down emissions.
We exhibited at UKIFDA EXPO 20222 at the Exhibition Centre. As the official conference sponsor, our Technical Manager Simon Lawford gave the keynote speech on changing industry mindset from commodities to speciality products.
May 2022
We launched a brand-new sustainability project team, made up of senior managers and volunteers from across the Group who are passionate about leading the business forward towards our net zero target.
We donated HVO and paid for the fuel for three incredible men’s trip who drove from Heywood to Ukraine to deliver much-needed aid.
We attended Get Rochdale Working’s Recruitment Fair in Middleton to look for local talent.
June 2022
We held our very own Jubilee Party for Her Majesty the Queen!
We launched volunteering days for staff, giving them to chance to build connections with their local community while giving back to society and working on issues they feel passionate about.
We launched a brand-new sustainability website to support our ongoing work. It follows the ESG framework and includes the steps we’re taking to achieve net zero direct emissions by 2030 or sooner.
We continued our work with UKIFDA and were thrilled that HVO was approved in HEAT applications as a low carbon fuel, meaning that builders and architects can use the technology to meet the environmental requirements for new builds. This means that as of the 15th of June 2022 in England and the 23rd of November 2022 in Wales, HVO is formally approved for use for compliance with the Building Regulations, including in new build properties! Crown Oil has been instrumental in this work, alongside Alan Black, OFTEC and UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA), working together to gain approval and push HVO into the domestic market.
Some of our colleagues from across the Group started a weekly football get together which is great for exercise and team building!
We held our very own Plant-Based Day to help promote sustainability within our workplace. All staff were treated to an extremely tasty Vegan lunch from The Chaat Walas and ice cream from The Ginger’s Comfort Emporium. We also had Elevated Elixirs come in with their fully natural products and skincare range. It’s been a great day, enjoyed by all.
July 2022
We partnered with CHOOOSE to offer carbon offsetting on our main products, giving our customers another tool to reduce their environmental impact.
We went down to the Crown Oil Arena to finish off sprucing up the award-winning Wonder Wall at RAFC.
Our tankers were given a makeover and now feature stickers to state that they are running on HVO fuel, helping to promote the renewable diesel on the road.
August 2022
We launched walk/cycle to work days for staff to encourage our colleagues to ditch the car and change up the routine to save a little cash and enjoy the many health benefits. This move also helps to reduce our Scope 3 emissions.
Crown volunteers went down to Rochdale’s Queen’s Park to litter pick and remove Himalayan Balsam despite some very wet weather conditions!
Another team of volunteers had a fantastic time helping out at a local Age UK event in Bury from helping prep food to running a quiz and bingo and chatting with the members.
We added some new artic tankers to our fleet which feature a fresh new look to showcase our sustainable fuels.
September 2022
We started an internal incentive to get staff onboard with taking steps to do their bit for our planet. From donating clothes to planting seeds, car sharing and bringing in plants, everyone has been getting stuck in!
Several of our colleagues took on Snowdon, raising over £750 for Bury Hospice.
We held our very own festival, Crown Fest, to celebrate our teams’ success while raising £1300 for Bury Hospice. With food vans, a blow-up bar and DJ as well as life-sized games, it was a great event enjoyed by all.
October 2022
We took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Coffee morning
Our different departments were treated to a day/night out to thank them for all their hard work over the last few months.
December 2022
As we approach the end of a very difficult year for many local causes and charities, we’re passionate about supporting them in any way we can. We launched the Crown Christmas Charity Advent Calendar which includes 24 donations to support those who need support more than ever.
