How to Prepare for Your Fuel Delivery

Whether you’re a business owner, homeowner or fleet operator, understanding what’s involved and how to get ready for a fuel delivery is key to a seamless supply. That’s because proper preparation can go a long way to avoiding delays and ensuring your tank is topped up quickly and without disruption.

At Crown Oil, we endeavour to make our nationwide fuel deliveries as smooth as possible. Whether it’s a diesel fuel delivery, HVO delivery, heating oil delivery or any of our other fuels, oils and lubricants, you can rest assured that you can count on us for all your fuel requirements. In this blog, we cover topics such as delivery methods to safety measures and more, giving you all the information you need before taking delivery.

Fuel delivery methods

Fuel can be delivered via a number of different methods, depending on your fuel requirements, including:

  • Bulk fuel delivery – this involves delivering fuel in large quantities via a tanker and is most commonly used in commercial and industrial applications. Taking bulk fuel deliveries also means you’ll benefit from more competitive pricing
  • Barrel/IBC delivery – fuel can also be delivered in much smaller quantities, via a 205-litre barrel, IBC or temporary fuel station, providing added flexibility
  • Onsite fuelling – this provides the ease of having fuel delivered directly to your site, particularly beneficial for construction sites, production sets and other remote locations where access may be limited
  • Fleet fuelling – this caters for large fleet operators, so instead of drivers having to fill up at fuel stations, they receive deliveries and can fill up at their own facilities
  • Emergency fuel delivery – this service is essential for fuel-dependent businesses that find themselves in emergency situations where they need fuel on a same-day basis

We supply a wide range of oil tanks, barrels, IBCs and other fuel storage solutions to support your fuel requirements. Call us on 0330 123 1444 to learn more.

What to consider before a fuel delivery

When organising your fuel delivery, there are several bits of information that need to be discussed with your account manager to make sure our delivery process is as smooth as possible.

Site access and open times

The first thing to consider is if there’s a particular site entrance or exit that you want our drivers to use. This ensures they are well informed of any access restrictions, avoiding any delays and saving time on wrongly attempted deliveries.

We also need to know of any unusual operating hours so that we can schedule your delivery at the best time to avoid disruption.

Tank location and number of tanks

If you have more than one tank onsite, be sure to let us know the exact location of where the fuel needs delivering to. This includes providing clear instructions to guide our drivers effectively, as well as how many tanks need refuelling.

Site/tank access restrictions

We also need to know if any fuel tanks are locked or secured with an access code so our driver can make the delivery as smooth and delay-free as possible.

Onsite availability

We do generally prefer someone to be onsite to take delivery and sign the proof of delivery (POD) form, as this eliminates any access issues and ensures that everything has gone smoothly. However, if this is not possible, we can make unattended deliveries, but you must inform your account manager of this beforehand so our drivers can be made aware of the tank location and any site restrictions, as well as a safe location to leave the POD.

Benefits of our fuel delivery services

Crown Oil’s fuel delivery services provide many benefits for businesses and homeowners, including:

  • Higher productivity – having fuel delivered directly to your site means you can optimise your operations by reducing any downtime spent refuelling at public fuel stations
  • Added convenience – onsite fuel deliveries avoid the need to travel to petrol stations, saving the time and inconvenience by keeping it in-house
  • Cost-effective – bulk fuel deliveries mean you can benefit from more competitive pricing, which is particularly useful for organisations that require large volumes of fuel
  • Reliable supply – you’ll have access to a consistent and dependable supply, reducing the risk of running out of fuel during critical operations
