Helping businesses to switch to sustainable fuels
Crown Oil is proud to deliver sustainable fuels, such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), across the UK to help our customers to significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. We also offer carbon offsetting on our most popular fuels – red diesel, diesel, kerosene and heating oil – helping you to counteract the carbon released from their use.
We aim to drive positive change throughout the fuel supply process, from the sustainable sourcing of our products’ key raw materials to reducing our operational impact and cutting our customers’ carbon footprint.
As well as reducing our own environmental impact, we’re continuing to drive innovation and are working with a range of sectors to reduce their emissions through the use of alternative fuels.
What is a sustainable fuel?
Sustainable fuels have the potential to produce lower carbon emissions than conventional fossil fuels. They can help to reduce our reliance on traditional fossil fuels such as diesel, whilst limiting the negative impact on the environment and public health.
Using a low-emission fuel provides substantial benefits from the use of greener energy sources and cutting-edge manufacturing methods which result in lower emissions, rather than the use of technologies such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and fuel additives which limit the harmful effect of emissions but do nothing to reduce them at their source.
Beyond the sustainability benefits, using an environmentally friendly fuel in your business allows you to improve your brand image and reputation, make your business more attractive to potential partners and investors and see annual improvements in CSR reporting.
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil
We’re proud to be one of the UK’s leading importers and distributors of HVO fuel. Through leveraging our influential role within the industry, we’re urging our customers to adopt cleaner fuels, which in turn will help to foster healthier and more sustainable communities.
HVO fuel is a paraffinic sustainable diesel that offers a fast and simple step towards net zero, instead of the leap needed for electrification. It meets EN 15940 standards and the Fuel Quality Directive 2009/30/EC Annex II, allowing it to be used as a drop-in alternative to red and white diesel with little to no engine modifications needed.
What’s more, it’s fossil, FAME and sulphur-free, meaning it reduces up to 90% of net carbon dioxide emissions right away, as well as offering a significant reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions and particulate matter.
For every 1,000 litres of diesel burned, you will produce 3.6 tonnes of greenhouse gas CO2, compared to just 195kg GHG CO2 for every 1,000 litres of HVO burned.
HVO fuel certification
Crown HVO fuel is certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC). This ensures all raw materials are audited and checked to ensure the integrity of the product and provides an independent certification for the fuel’s environmental credentials.
We are also a member of the Renewable Fuel Assurance (RFAS) run by Zemo, which gives our customers a certificate every quarter for the previous quarter’s consumption.
Our in-house technical team provide free support and advice to ensure a completely seamless transition to HVO. What’s more, we provide full continuity of supply and deliver the product throughout the UK, utilising our fleet of HVO-fuelled tankers.
Fuelling our fleet with HVO fuel saves an average of 3,080 tonnes of CO2 every year which is equivalent to driving around the Earth 51 times!
Offsetting tankers’ remaining delivery mileage
Counteracting the carbon used to supply our customers with the fuel they need to power their operations not only allows us to improve our environmental footprint but that of our customers too. We are continuing to offset any remaining emissions from our road fleet, effectively making our deliveries carbon-neutral.
Carbon offset fuels
Together with measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, carbon offsetting is a recognised way to compensate for your remaining carbon footprint.
While carbon offset fuels cannot be considered a justifiable long-term solution to emissions reduction, carbon offsetting is extremely cost-effective and worthwhile when combined with an action plan to reduce emissions at their source.
How can I offset my fuel?
Where emissions can’t be avoided or reduced, you can purchase carbon offsets from Crown Oil, which are sourced from CHOOOSE, a leading climate-tech company headquartered in Oslo, Norway. All of their projects are verified by the most comprehensive and stringent certification standards, ensuring your offset creates the highest climate impact.
With every fuel order, whether that be red diesel, white diesel, industrial heating oil or kerosene, you can offset the CO2 emissions that you can’t avoid or reduce. Simply ask your account manager each time you place an order. We’ll calculate your carbon offset contribution based on the delivery size and add it to your final bill, which goes towards verified carbon-reducing projects.
